What is good for eyestrain on a computer monitor?
like glare filter or settings or resolution? Can I buy one that has better resolution?
Surprisingly enough, a lot of the things you can do don't have anything directly to do with the monitor.
0) If you need glasses, wear them. If you're older and need reading glasses, get some.
1) Get the *distance* to the monitor to be something your eyes can focus comfortably - the exact distance will depend on your vision and glasses, if any.
2) If you need to be further away but can't read the screen, try using a larger font.
3) Make sure your work area is reasonably well lit - a bright monitor in a dark area will make things worse.
4) Get up every 15-20 minutes, and look out the window or something for a minute or two. Let your eyes relax.
Finally we get down to the actual monitor/settings.. 
5) Higher resolution *may* help, if it allows you to use a more readable font. But usually screen size matters more than the resolution - a 19" monitor that does 1280x1024 will probably be easier than a 15" monitor that has 1600x1200.
6) Adjust the brightness and contrast to whatever is easiest for you to deal with. If your computer supports it, try both black letters on a light background and light letters on a dark background, and go with the one that's easier for you.
Personally, I'm nearsighted as a bat, and what works best for *me* is wearing contacts, reading glasses over them, about 2 foot face-to-monitor. Monitor is a big huge 21" CRT from literally 1998 running at 1600x1200, using white against a very dark blue background. I stare at that for a living. Your mileage may vary - some of my co-workers ask how the heck I can read that.
