What can I use to cover the wood paneling in my sons bedroom?

Im trying to move my son into his own bedroom, but it has wood paneling, were giving him new carpet, and fixing up the room nice, but its a manufacter home and the woodpanelling litterally is the wall, so it cant be removed. Does anybody know if they make a type of covering, or easy to install paneling that is flat and thin to go over it, we just need to make the surface flush and not wood panelling so we can paint it to give him a newer, modern feel.
The wood paneling has grooves in it, how do i remove/cover them?

you are over thinking it. i painted over my panel wall(same as you have) looks great. just do it! you want to cover it up anyway so no loss . just 15 bucks for a gallon of semi gloss. to see what you think. mine has the lines in it
