Dress Hangers And The Difference Compared To Other Hangers
Dress hangers evolved from the original coat clothes hangers invented in the middle of the 19th century. These hangers did not deviate from the standard hanger design – a hook with two shoulder-shaped arms that fit into clothes and allowed these clothes to be hung. The hanger for dresses, however, still had to take some adjusting, in order to better suit their use.
Unlike hangers for coats that are designed to keep the coat shoulders broad, intact, and without creases, the dress hanger had no such complications, apart from keeping a dress smooth and without unwanted folds or creases for storage. Doing this keeps these clothes attractive and ready for people to wear.
Adjustments for the shoulders of dress hangers are one of the more noticeable points. Unlike most plastic or wooden hangers for coats with wide shoulder segments to better fit to form a coat, hangers for dresses needn't be concerned with keeping shoulders full and rounded out. They need only keep a dress aloft and free of crumpling onto a floor.
Some of these hangers have been developed with other features. One is the inclusion of clips on the hanger. These clips are made to hold up a dress that may not have any shoulders designed into it, or for outfits with a tube design concept that wraps around the torso to fit onto its owner. Other features include notches on the dress hanger's shoulders, which help hook thin shoulders and shoulder straps of the dress, so as to keep it from slipping off the hanger.
