Laptop wont boot after merging partitions Partition Magic?
I reinstalled XP home on laptop, found hidden partition from OEM manufacturer in the process, after installing XP and all setup well drivers etc.... I ran partition magic to merge a small partiotion with the C drive, all went well, completed the process, the computer reboted automatically after completing the merge and all i get is the computer starts up and gives the option for the F2 or F12 boot menu etc, and then goes to a black screen with a cursor in the top left, when i press any buttons, i get a beep, press ctrl alt del and the computer restarts and same, no windows anymore? WTF?
am a little bit angry, I am now reinstalling XP again!
What happended, did it lose the boot.ini file or something?
I tried recovery using the XP CD and everything else for the last 3 hours, tried doing a system check from the boot menu, some strange option...
Last resort I am installing again, why me? It's not my computer!
You probably hosed the master boot record. I did the same thing a few weeks ago and had to reinstall both Windows and Linux on my laptop. The thing is that your master boot record can't be tampered with. If you merged two partitions together then your motherboard doesn't know where to look for it.
You're going to have to reinstall again.
