I agree with Nathan. It depends on what you want to do.

For gaming get a regular TN panel as they have better response times.

For photo editing and other work that needs accurate color, go IPS, like on Dell's UltraSharp line. They'll deliver much better color reproduction than TN and offer a wider gamut and really wide viewing angles. The only issue is that they have lower response times and cost a good deal more for the same size.
