Fall Garden Planting in NW climate?

I live in Portland Oregon and have a plot to plant whatever I want. Probably 15 by 20 feet. Not really much shade. It has a 5ft high chainlink fence on two sides.

I would like to plant something soon (this month), so I can have something growing over the fall and winter season. I would prefer to grow something along the fence line (or even around the whole plot) that can act as a privacy screen. I figure it's too late to plant sunflowers or corn. Is there something I can plant now (we currently are still enjoying 70-80 degree days) that will last throught the winter? Something that grows high, or maybe weave into the chainlink fence?
I'm looking for something that grows tall that can last through our (generally) mild winters. I'd like to do something more lush than just
lettuce or cabbage (which I've heard can be planted in the fall).

Any suggestions appreciated. Thank you in advance.

camellias are great. some are fall and winter blooming. also some are fragrant. they come in many colors but mosty red and white. one is yellow, but this is more tropical and also is very rare. they are evergreens and if planted near the house or away from wind it will have many blooms in early sping and late fall. best planted in the spring although you may want to get right to planting you will be happyier with spring blooms if planted in the spring.

good luck
