Is every freakin TV and Monitor going to use that gloss crap forever?
I am a huge spender when it comes to electronics. If it is new and better than a previous model I already own it. However I still have the same LCD Monitor and HDTV for the past few years ONLY because EVERY freakin monitor out now has that crap glossy piano finish. Seriously, you guys like that? What happened to the black matte finish that was unnoticable so you can focus what is on the SCREEN? I do not want to be staring back at my own distorted reflection around my TV/Monitor frame.
That fact that 99.999998% of all TVs have this crap is beyond me. I even contacted Samsun and Sony beginning them to release new models with normal black matte finishes but received no response. This is total bs.
I thoroughly concur with your sentiments and sympathize with your frustration.
It seems to me the solution is fairly simple: display manufacturers should, for a variety of reasons, particularly high performance applications, offer interchangeable bezel faceplates for select models of HD televisions and monitors, including matte (or velour) black bezels.
The other somewhat troubling trend from display manufacturers is shrinking the width of the bezel around the screen. While this may appeal to many consumers such a design trend can have a deleterious effect when it comes to maximizing perceived image contrast; a black velour or matte black screen border would greatly help increase the perceived image contrast while minimizing distracting reflections.
